THE SETTING
An island left wild.
Atokos rises from the sea between Kastos and Ithaca, its steep slopes covered in wild scrub and its coastline cut by sheer white cliffs. There is no village, no harbour and no road, only the island and the water around it.
That is the appeal. A day here is about anchoring in a quiet bay, swimming in some of the clearest water in the Ionian and enjoying a landscape that feels untouched.
GETTING THERE
A day by boat
From Paleros
Atokos lies around 16 nautical miles from Paleros. With no ferry service, it is reached only by private boat or rib, which makes the crossing part of the adventure.
One House Bay
The island’s best-known cove, framed by cliffs and a small pebble beach, is a favourite spot to drop anchor and swim in turquoise water.
Combining islands
Atokos pairs naturally with Kastos or Kalamos for lunch by a harbour, or with Ithaca for a longer day exploring the wider Ionian.
LOCAL TIPS
What to expect
No facilities. There are no tavernas, shops or services on the island, so plan lunch on board or on a neighbouring island.
Choose a calm day. The bays are most enjoyable in settled weather; mornings are usually the calmest time to visit.
Swimming & snorkelling. The water beneath the cliffs is exceptionally clear, ideal for snorkelling along the rocky shoreline.
Bring with you. Water, food, shade and sun protection, and leave the island exactly as you found it.
THE HOVA RECOMMENDATION
Make it a boat day
Ask HOVA Concierge to arrange a private boat from Paleros, spend the day swimming in the coves of Atokos, and be back at your villa for sunset.
